Book Club - Smokin' Seventeen

It's time for Book Club with Heather & Katie!

This week I'm reviewing:

The bail bonds office has burned to the ground, and bodies are turning up in the empty construction lot. To make matters worse, New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie is working out of a motor home she shares with a dancing bear, and Joe Morelli's old-world grandmother has declared a vendetta against her.

It actually made me so conflicted giving a book in this series - that I have loved for so long - something as low as 3 stars but it had to be done. While it started off OK, it got progressively more ridiculous. This is where you should stop reading if you plan on getting this far in the series b/c there will be some spoilers.

I'm so tired of people chasing her down to kill her. And jezus girl, pick up a damn gun! Also, she's now creeping into whorebag levels with her love triangle - I highly disapprove. But I won't lie...the cliffhanger ending totally made me pick up #18 immediately. I've gone this far, I can't stop...!

Condo Wishlist

Our housewarming is on Saturday and everyone keeps asking what I want. Honestly, we've already pretty much bought everything we really needed for our place, if we didn't already own it.

Plus, I rarely trust gifts. I know my taste and more often than not, people who don't know me inside & out get me crap I don't want. Sorry, it's true. As impersonal as gift cards are, I'd rather have that than something I will never use (i.e. throw away).

However, there are a few things that would be nice-to-have...

We actually already own a SodaStream. Our second one in fact. But it's not this one, which is beautiful and I want it. I love SodaStream - probably the best invention the world has had in a long time. If you have SodaStream questions, talk to me!

I've wanted a cheese set for forever and the end of forever needs to be now. But I want one with all of the pieces together as one - not just a cutting board and not just the knives. All of them, fitting together as one.

It is no secret that I l.o.v.e. french fries so being able to make them with one tablespoon of oil sounds like absolute heaven! I've heard actual disclaimers for the Acti-fry and  they're all good so it's pretty much a no-brainer. Of course that will result in fries for breakfast, lunch and dinner. #omnomnom

I want to create a gallery wall so naturally I'll need to hit up Michael's for frames and other things. Ideally, I'll be able to take a trip across the border and do some damage at Hobby Lobby but I don't see that happening anytime soon, therefore please fund me.

The knife block is the most practical ask and it came from dC. Obviously. I think he's right though so I threw it in haha

At the end of the day, wine is perfectly fine as well. White, not dry. Go with a riesling or moscato. Yeah, told you I'm picky.

Condo Tour!

Y'all I finally got this place organized enough, albeit not tidy enough for my liking, to do the tour! It has taken me so long and it's not what I had originally planned, but I didn't want to delay it any longer.

We've been here for two weeks now and finally feeling more settled. There's some pictures left to be hung & a gallery wall to be designed but overall, it's pretty much done.

I ended up having to do this at night so excuse the fake, unnatural light please...

Laundry door is directly across with Koko's bag of tricks hanging from it

To the left...

The ensuite

The shower is behind the bathroom door
The "walk in " closet
There is top to bottom shelving on the right in the corner (not visible)
Down the hallway...

To the left...
We put the island in ourselves!

To the right off the hallway...
Koko's bathroom

Further down the hallway to the right...
I don't love it with the bed & dresser so that may get replaced with a pullout couch or futon in the near future...

Straight ahead down the hall...

See, not tidy...

This electric fireplace was included & we don't know what to do with it. And pictures that need to be hung!
I didn't take pictures of the balconies as it was dark but I will once the weather gets nicer. One runs along the entire side of the condo with access from the master, kitchen & living room. There is also a smaller one off of the second bedroom.

So that's it, welcome to our new place :)

Big Steps

Like I mentioned in the 2013 recap post, we bought our first place right before Christmas.

Honestly, I don't know how I would have survived a 60 or 90-day closing period because the 30 days we had were more than enough waiting for me. Not impatient at all...

So last Friday, we finally picked up our keys!

After spending two hours installing a million two light fixtures, we're both pretty much qualified electricians. Other than opening every closet and cupboard door, there wasn't much for us to do in an empty place after doing the painting prep for the next day. Except drink, of course.

Saturday was painting day. I still can't believe how successful it was, really. We only painted 4 rooms (and only accent walls in some), instead of the 6 originally planned because we couldn't decide on colours for those two. I won't tell you which rooms since I want you to wait for the tour, but these are the colours:

We got everything done with three coats in just under 8 hours. I was totally impressed with our mad skills.

Then Sunday was furniture day. If you know me, you know I only buy my furniture at IKEA. Ever. So I already don't care about any "IKEA sucks" opinions that you may have and we can skip that entire conversation. Our order was 40 items, and we probably didn't even get through putting together half of them...

Somehow this week we must put together the rest of the new furniture in the new place and pack up our life in the old place. With no days off. Wish us luck! Better yet, just come over and help!

T-4 days until Moving Day!
