Nail Files - 1.24

Linking up with my girl Jennie for...

Today I'm reviewing these puppies:

I received this press-on manicure in my first Influenster Maple Vox Box last month. I used to do my own glue-on manicure in university quite frequently, although I always opted for the french mani. The shape of my nailsbeds and fingers make easy for me to pull this off without them seeming obviously fake so I was totally open to giving these a try, even though pattern was bolder than what I'm used to.

What I remember from previous self-applications is a lot of glue. A lot. Well, no more of that! These nails are pre-stickied (such a technical term) and covered with a clear film. Once you match up your nail sizes (12 different sizes, 2 of each = 24 nails), you just peel off the film, stick it on. Don't forget to press & hold too!

It.was.so.easy! I love it!

I even matched the nail sizes so that I'd have enough for two applications (with four nails left over) so BAM - 2 manis in 1!

I totally recommend these if you're looking to cover up your real nails for a bit (mine were breaking & chipping constantly so they needed a break & I needed something nice to look at) or just a fun mani without the effort (especially if you don't have to skills - like me).

This is from Day 2
I hope Target Canada is still having a clearance sale on their nail stuff and I can pick up some more designs for cheap!!!

I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. All opinions are my own.

Book Club - Half Broke Horses

It's time for Book Club with Heather & Katie!

This week I'm reviewing:
Lily Casey Smith, this novel's feisty Texas protagonist, is a frontier teacher, a rancher, a rodeo rider, a poker player, and bootlegger. In Half Broke Horses, she survives droughts, tornados, floods, poverty, and whatever else fate can throw against her. Based on author Jeannette Walls's grandmother, Lily is a plausible character because she has a voice that synchronizes with her history. This novel lives up to the still gathering acclaim for Walls's novel The Glass Castle.

Thoughts
Not surprisingly, Jeannette Walls has written another fantastic novel. I was really excited to read the "pre" to The Glass Castle, which I loved. The storytelling is incredible and completely sucks you in. As you near the end of this book, it definitely feels like you're getting closer to the beginning of Glass Castle and I felt myself getting angry all over again. Don't get me wrong, I loved Glass Castle but I spent the majority of the time angry LOL You should totally read both and it doesn't really matter in which order you do so.

the 2013 that was...

Why yes, I am doing a 2013 year in review halfway through January...problem?

That should really be a testament as to how crazy our lives have been pretty much since we got back from vacation.

I don't know about all y'all but 2013 was a huge year for me.

In February I got a new job, after a really long time of being used and abused at my old job. And after an adjustment period, I'm totally into this not-so-new job.!

In January, Mike moved in to my our apartment. We also went through an adjustment period there, but it was definitely a necessary step in right direction for our relationship. Obviously there are always bumps but 2013 was pretty love-licious for us and so...we got ENGAGED in September during our California vacation!!! More on that in the next post...

Which is pretty much when the updates stopped. October-December were absolutely.bloody.insane. at work. Late nights and overtime like I don't ever want to remember you won't even believe. In hindsight, there was a purpose to it & was totally worth it because I got promoted right before my birthday! Yes, happy birthday to me indeed :)

December was crazy because I mean, when aren't the Holidays busy, amiright?! But we also moved forward with our decision to buy & move, and right before Christmas we purchased a home of our own! Merry Christmas to us!

We move in just over 3 weeks, quite fast I know, meaning January has been just as insane! I really hate dealing with things that are unfamiliar to me because I like to think I know everything, so this has been extra stressful for me. Soon though...soon.

So while this doesn't necessarily excuse my absenteeism, I hope it explains it...

I keep making blog plans like dozens of draft posts, not to mention an overdue facelift, but it all just gets pushed out as a result of life. I'll work on it, promise!!!

2013 treated us incredibly well and it's hard to imagine more milestones and more happiness in 2014, but I'm actually incredibly excited to see what it has in store!!!

...Right after I finish packing up our apartment...send help. Please?

Book Club Friday - 5 Reviews

It's time for Book Club with Heather & Katie!

First off, yes I'm still alive. I know it's been over 2 months since I posted but things have been happening.

I'll start with the Goodreads Reading Challenges.

Unfortunately, I did not quite meet my 2013 goal :(
I didn't even have a chance to post my reviews of the last 5 books I read in 2013. You can click on the links below to check out my review on my Goodreads page.

Inferno - Dan Brown (4*)

Orange is the New Black - Piper Kerman (5*)

Finger Lickin' Fifteen - Janet Evanovich (5*)

Such a Pretty Fat - Jen Lancaster (3*)

The Cuckoo's Calling - Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling pseudonym) (5**)

So I am setting the same goal for 2014 in hopes of meeting, and maybe exceeding, that number!

Happy Reading to all :)
