#Cali2013 - San Francisco

Finally, the pictures have been sorted!

Our 8-day trip started with 3 days in San Francisco. Looking back now that we've done the entire trip, San Francisco was definitely my favourite!!!

I definitely think that there's a lot more to see in San Fran that we didn't have time for, as well as heading north to Sonoma & Napa Valley to enjoy their wine.

I've tried to pick the most key pictures but these barely scratch the surface of how incredible it was!

Day 1 - Enjoying the SF harbourfront

Day 1 + 2 - Spent so much time walking around here, trying the seafood & admiring the harbourfront

Day 2 - Lombard Street, the windiest road in the world

Day 1 - Coit Tower at Night
Day 2 - Yay cable cars! $6 and a 45-minute wait later, it was so worth it :)
PS: The cable car wasn't moving here, I'm not brave enough for that haha

Day 2 - Reunited with one of my best friends from university, who now works/lives in Sonoma

Day 2 - Our favourite day in San Fran

Day 2 - Biking to the Golden Gate Bridge...incredible!

Day 2 - Enjoyed the Ghirardelli Chocolate & Wine Festival

Day 3 - Art in Union Square

Day 3 - Hanging out around Telegraph Hill & Coit Tower...amaz
ing views!

Day 3 - Hanging out around Telegraph Hill & Coit Tower

Day 3 - Hanging out around Telegraph Hill & Coit Tower...ama\ing views!

Day 3 - The sea lions at Pier 39!

Day 3 - Alcatraz Tour (so fun!)

Toms Love

Last year in Chicago I finally bought my first pair to Toms.
Ash Grey Canvas

They are honestly my most comfortable pair of shoes. I am supposed to wear insoles and the Toms make it so easy compared to my other flats.

So ever since I saw their new line of Desert wedges, I just cannot stop thinking about buying a pair - but which one!

Natural Burlap Women's Desert Wedges

Herringbone Women's Desert Wedges

Taupe Suede Women's Desert Wedges

Of course I've also been thinking about buying a 'back up' pair of Toms flats, but I know the choice is going to be as difficult as it was the first time!

Do you own a pair of Toms? Do you love them?

Nail Files - 9.13

Linking up with my girl Jennie for...

Vacation nails!!! In honour of this summery vaca to California, I used bright colours on my fingers and toes. That's right, double show today!

These are the colours I used
Coral Reef, Sunkissed, Twisted Pink

Sunkissed accented with Twisted Pink

Coral Reef

Then I decided these nails needed something to make them POP!
Strobe Light accents

Anyone else trying to hold onto summer with bright nail polish shades?!

Happy 1st Birthday, Koko!

I cannot believe my babykat is one years old today!

I say he wasn't changed much but then I see pictures of when we first got him at two months old and...yes, he has definitely changed!

I wanted to give you a slideshow but apparently Picasa is all changed to Google+ now.
I promise the album will not disappoint though!

Koko is definitely the best decision I ever made :)

Two years ago, I was disappointed about not being able to get tickets to TIFF. Last year I didn't even try because I was still so bitter about the process. This year would have panned out much the same way if it weren't for one of dC's co-workers getting a ticket package & selling us one of her pairs.*

We literally went through - upwards of 300 - to make a list of 30, in the days leading up to the deadline.
We got our first choice - Prisoners!

I was beyond excited to even see it on the list since we'd seen a preview a couple of weeks before & knew it was a must see.

I'll tell you one thing - it did not disappoint. Everything - directing, acting, script - about this movie was phenomenal. It better be, at 2.5 hours!

I don't want to do a real review for fear of spoiling anything & this really deserves to be watched. Lucky for you it comes out next week on September 20th!

*The process for purchasing single tickets to movies after all of the package-holders have selected theirs is atrocious. It is nearly impossible to get tickets. dC was in a virtual ticket queue for nearly four hours & by then most of the ones we wanted were gone and we were too tired to care.
Apparently the trick was to open multiple browsers & constantly refresh. No thanks. If you're going to make it that difficult for me to give you money, I'm not going to give it to you.
That's why we got super lucky to get ours as part of someone's package & have first dibs. Next year I may consider doing a package of our own!

Book Club - 9.06

It's time for Book Club with Heather & Katie!

This week I'm reviewing:
When Barry Fairbrother dies in his early forties, the town of Pagford is left in shock.

Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty fa├žade is a town at war.

Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils ... Pagford is not what it first seems.

And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?

I was really excited to finally get to read this book as it's been in my queue pretty much since it came out. I L.O.V.E. Harry Potter, so was more than a little bit curious as to what J.K. Rowling had up her sleeve. I was most certainly not disappointed.

I will admit, it was quite difficult to get into the book - it started off a bit slow and there are so many characters to keep track of! But once it picked up & I was able to keep everyone straight, it was a very good read. The development of the characters and story from beginning to end was really well done & I simply loved the ending.

I have yet to talk to anyone who's read it but I definitely recommend it - and not just because I want to have someone to talk to about it!

Cousin Love

After the CNE fun on Friday, my cousin came to visit for the weekend!

We hadn't seen each other since January so it was an amazing reunion!

As soon as she got here, we went off to lunch so she could try Poutine! Of course we also had some Sangria because it was gorgeous outside & we totally wanted to take advantage of the end of summer!

@ Jack Astor's
We also took a trip to IKEA which there are no pictures of because I totally have my hands full while I'm there! Didn't make too big of a dent in my wallet this time around though ;)

That night, we went to a club downtown which I hadn't done in far too long! A blast was had by all :)

Sunday morning, Vik & I hit up Sugar Beach for more summer enjoyment & the weather could not have been more spectacular!!!

Beach babes!

Post-beach, we tried out a new hotspot restaurant at the harbourfront - Amsterdam Brewhouse - and managed to snag seats on the patio facing the lake! It was super windy and we had to hold down the items on our table, but still a great spot.
Beer flights, burgers & love!
I hardly ever go to Toronto's harbourfront, mainly because it's so annoying to get there - expensive parking & inconvenient transit. But hopefully it'll be even nicer after all of the construction so that we can get more shots with yachts that aren't ours [yet!]

Monday was mostly relax time before Vik had to leave & so ended Summer 2013...

How did you see off the summer this past Labour/Labor Day Weekend?!

WOTE @ The Ex

To kick off the weekend, we hit up the The Ex (or CNE, whatever you want to call it), which is an annual 2-week fair with food, games, markets & concerts.

We usually spend our time browsing the market, playing the games & eating but this year, the main purpose was seeing Walk Off The Earth!

The concerts are free with the CNE admission ticket so BONUS! They weren't playing until later though so took advantage of the rest of the activities.

The food @ RibFest:

The games:
dC lost both bananas by the end of the night but I won him one back ;)
Completed our giraffe family by adding momma giraffe to last year's baby giraffe!

Finally the concert started & we got rained on hard - but it was SO SO SO worth it!!!

If you haven't checked them out yet - despite my ranting - you totally have to!

The videos wouldn't upload last night but you'll be seeing them asap!
