Props to J-Law

Every Jennifer needs a nickname, right? Especially ones that are ON FIRE! Jennifer Lawrence is clearly so on fire.

Very rarely am I smitten with a female celebrity but I'm really excited about her. She's clearly talented - 3 awards in 3 months don't lie! - and she's got such a sweet & funny personality if you've seen her interviews and her SNL hosting.

Pretty much...we should be BFFs.

In case you missed the Oscars, here are the J-Law highlights. The dress was drop dead gorgeous.

Young Hollywood is full of over-confident douchebags *ahem Kristen Stewart*, that it's just refreshing to see someone, a girl no less, who hasn't been sucked in by it & is clearly focusing on the acting.

I'm also super excited to see her in 'Silver Linings Playbook' when I'm done reading the book. Not just because her performance is so critically acclaimed, but because I'm loving this book! If I had more time than just my commute to read, I'd be done by now.

So if you're not familiar with, or rooting for, J-Law yet, it's time you do so!

Bon Jovi, The Show

I can't believe I was able to cross off this major item off of my to do list: see Bon Jovi live in concert.
Thanks to dC for finally convincing me to buy tickets, because I put it off every time he comes to town. I can't imagine why.

It was incredible...see for yourselves...

First of course you get to see our pre-concert excitement!

This close, no zoom!

The End.
I'll be back.

You can also check out the Preview & Video posts.

It's OK Thursday - 2.21

Time to link up with Neely & Amber to let you know what's OK today!

It's OK...
...that I wasn't able to go through all of the Bon Jovi concert pics yet
[you can see check out the preview & video though]

...that I was 100% excited for my first day & 0% nervous!

...that I'm getting more nervous now worrying about whether I'll learn all this new stuff

...that I have three different mugs at my desk > regular, travel & re-usable Starbucks

...that I have mixed feelings about whether or not I want Grey's Anatomy to end this season [can't wait for tonight's episode!]

...that this ever-changing weather is driving me crazy!

...that this I plan on using this new 'casual' dress code to re-vamp my closet & go shopping this weekend!

...that the NBA draft deadline is tomorrow and A.Bargnani still hasn't been traded off the Raptors [that's borderline not OK]

...that I'm still trying to settle into a morning routine, mostly because I had zero routine for like the past 3 months with my old job

...that despite loving this new job, I'm still looking forward to the weekend for R&R :)

Happy Thursday!

The End of an Era

Remember when I was excited about starting my corporate job just over two years ago? Yeah, I didn't either but this post refreshed my memory.

I mean, I remember being happy but I didn't realize I was that excited...and naive. So, so naive. I've learned so much since then - about what I do and don't want, about people, about looking out for myself.

I was very happy at my last job for the first year, when it started getting very bumpy. I even wrote this post about it. Things didn't get much better after that, because even though I had bursts of positivity and motivation, I just kept getting beat down. It took me a long time but I finally managed to jump off that sinking ship & I don't plan on looking back.

I'm obviously super, crazy excited about starting my new job, but this time it's for the right reasons. With everything I learned over the last couple of years, I know I've based my decision on the right things.

I can't wait until tomorrow to jump into this new & exciting challenge! And hopefully a better work ID photo than this one...

But first things first...BON JOVI TONIGHT!

Cupid's Day

I am not a fan of Valentine's day & how crazy it makes people but at least it forces us to remember to say "I love you!". Even though we shouldn't need this reminder.

So Happy Valentine's Day from us to you, lovelies!

Our plans are minimal: sushi dinner + Die Hard 5! My choice, of course ;)

New me, New things

On Saturday, I finally got my hair done after many months of contemplating.

I'm allergic to hair dye so I really wanted to try the 'ombre' style, and I finally went for it!

I really really like how it ended up turning out.

Naturally, I had to treat myself to a shopping trip afterwards.

I've been on the hunt for nice black boots (riding-style boots I suppose) for over a year now and I finally found a pair that I like on SALE! Like, 50% off on sale.

The fact that they had these left in my size was pretty much a sign that I should buy them
I'm also telling myself that I will commit to starting and enjoying going to the gym when I start this new job (there's a gym across the street) so I picked up these Nikes to help with the motivation.

I don't know why the lighting is so weird in this picture - they have purple detailing.
I swear I'm actually going to give this gym thing a go! Really!

Now here's to surviving 4 more days of this job...

Weekend on Fire

This is the most relaxing weekend I've had in a while because I wasn't stressed out about job interview results or "OMG Monday is coming, I have so much to do at work this week!" It felt great, obv.

Saturday started off with getting my hair done and a shopping trip [more to come!], followed by a celebratory dinner for my new job at a Teppanyaki restaurant. These are the Japanese restaurants that cook right in front of you and often get the audience involved. It was awesome.

Getting the grill FIRED up!
I had my shot at tossing and cracking an egg in half but dC didn't get a shot at that fail. Thankfully. Food was deelish & experience was awesome! I highly recommend visting one of these!

Sunday was full or relaxing and apartment cleaning [talk about an oxymoron right?] followed by a Raptor game, which they WON! And I caught a t-shirt in the fan giveways! First time for both this season :)
Let's GO Raptooooooors!
So yeah, this weekend was on fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiire!!

Happy Monday!

Awesomeness Comes in Threes

At least it did for me this week.
I'm foregoing my usual Friday link-up fun to tell y'all about it.

This guy moved in & now we're roommates!

We're not roommates yet in this picture but everytime I remembered to take one this week, I was already in my PJs with my makeup off and that just wasn't happening lol

He doesn't actually like when I say we're roommates though; "What, we're just roommates now? That's it?"
Umm no, silly. It's just fun to say. Mr. Serious over here.

My Nexus 4 arrived in the mail!

It's not that my old phone died completely but it was not built for my level of usage [#nerdalert] & this brings me just a little bit closer on my quest of being contract-free!

Needless to say, I love it.

I got a new job!
That's right - all the stress I've felt because of work will be over in one short week and I am extremely happy & relieved about that.
This was yesterday's song of the day:

Have a happy weekend y'all!
Stay safe & warm if you're in the #snowmaggedon belt like me!

Oh, How Pinteresting! - 02.06

This winter of rainy, slushy 'snow' has me day dreaming of travelling to more beautiful, and sometimes warmer, places... *le sigh*

February 4, 2013

Don't worry, I'm not talking about myself. Just Canada in general.

Today is the day that Canada gets rid of the pesky little copper coin we call the 'penny'.
An event so monumental that even Google [Canada] is honouring it.

Why? Well apparently it costs 1.6 cents to produce just one penny, which is now going to save the Government $11 million per year.* My new question is why not sooner?!

Short-term, this change is going to cause massive confusion every time you pay for something. Cashiers will have to round up or down to the nearest fifth, but only if you're paying cash. I, for one, can't wait to see how this plays out and will be fully entertained watching some people struggle to grasp the concept.

However, I'm not sure that everything was considering in this decision becuase we are not just losing a little round piece of metal; we are losing so many daily habits.

A penny for your thoughts? Not anymore. Unless you're paying credit or debit that is. Otherwise you'll be forking over an entire nickel. Or wait, shouldn't it round down to free? You see - confusion! I anticipate a lot less thought-sharing to happen, which isn't all bad. Some thoughts are stupid.

The useful 'take a penny, leave a penny' boxes at convenience stores will become obsolete. I'm going to miss them. Especially considering I never go to convenience stores.

You will also never have good luck again. Not by finding a penny at least. You will no longer run into your crush because you found a penny that morning. It will now just be pure coincidence. Or fate, depending on how much you want to romanticize it. You better start stocking up on rabbit feet and horseshoes if you want to continue with such superstitions.

Worst of all though, you can never again be that asshole in line counting out exactly 38 pennies for your purchase. I know, depressing.

So Canadians, start rolling up those hundreds of jars of pennies you've collected over the years so that you can cash them in for all of $4. Almost enough for a Starbucks latte.

Or donate them to charity, you Scrooge.

Book Club! - 02.01

It's time for Book Club with Heather!

This week I'm reviewing:

Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update," before "Sarah Palin," Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV.

She has seen both these dreams come true.

At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon -- from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've all suspected: you're no one until someone calls you bossy.

I loved this book, seriously. I was a little bit hesitant after reading Ellen's book and completely not enjoying it, but it was GREAT! The few things I've watched Tina Fey in I've loved, but I never really saw her on SNL  and I've only seen a couple of episodes of 30 Rock, but she is a seriously talented writer.
I think that's the difference between this book & the Ellen book - Tina is a writer, so she knows how to put her humour down on paper, whereas Ellen is more standup.
Anyway, read this book if you appreciate good humour. Which you should.
