Book Club - 11.30

This week I'm reviewing:
{via Goodreads}
A “saintly” old candy store owner is on the lam - and bounty hunter extraordinaire Stephanie Plum is on the case. As the body count rises, Stephanie finds herself dealing with dead drug dealers and slippery fugitives on the chase of her life. And with the help of eccentric friends and family, Steph must see to it that this case doesn't end up being her last....

Loved. I don't think I need to tell y'all how much I love this series. Picking up a book and not wanting to put it down is probably the best feeling. It may not be an intricate piece of writing but it takes me away from reality and makes reading time so so enjoyable. Part of it is the fact that I can't wait to see what kind of storyline the author is going to spin this time without being boring and repetitive. So far so good! I still totally recommend this series, even if you're just going to pick it up once in a while. Such great easy reads :)

It's OK Thursday - 11.29

I'm linking up with Neely & Amber today, because it's just been that kind of week.

It's OK...

- that I'm behind on my blog post plan...I thought the post-birthday week would be a quiet one but I was oh so wrong
- that I've procrastinated every day after work this week - late lame dinners, unfinished budgeting, chipped nails...the list goes on
- that my attempt at motivating myself last night resulted in starting a complicated dinner at 7pm; the butternut pasta with sausage = totally worth it!
- that Coco meows at an increasing tone when she wants to get my attention..let's me know she notices me :)
- that I still haven't cut Coco's little claws...I'm worried I'll hurt her!
- that everything at work is up in the air right not & I'm not freaking out...change is good right?
- that I've gone back to biting my nails this week because of stress :(
- that I'm one book behind in reaching my Goodreads Reading Challenge goal by the end of the year..even though it was only 15 books :(
- that watching Jeopardy makes me feel smart
- that I want to spend the money on a new Christmas tree...I don't love my current one & I figure I may as well use my discount while I still have it
- that I've got a somewhat crazy three weeks coming up; such is life in December!

Cheers to this week ending!

Birthday Photobooth Fun!

My birthday weekend was great & Friday's party was great!

Here are some pictures from the photobooth I'd set up :)

Ok, the first one is just of me :)

By the end of the night the photobooth was starting to fall apart a little bit LOL

And of course some birthday wishes from my little Coco puff <3

Birthday Love

This is my favourite day of the whole year.

Not because of the gifts. Not because of the cake. Not even because everyone's sending you well wishes.

Purely because it's the one day that I really do not let anything get to me. It's my day, nothing else matters. It'd be nice if I could do that every day, but you know.

As lame as this is going to sound, I do love waking up to Facebook wall posts from some of my favourite people who live 6 time zones away. Even four years post-exchange, they're still some of my greatest friends!

The greatest thing though is not waking up alone on my birthday - thank you Mike :)

As if that wasn't enough, he has SERIOUSLY spoiled me with 3 days of pre-gifts and an ah-may-zing birthday gift.

 Day 1 - Lindt Chocolate
Day 2 - Crazy amount of colourful Sharpies to unleash my inner creativity
Day 3 - 'Catcher in the Rye', classic

Apparently, that wasn't enough because this morning I received this...
I.Love.It.So.Much.

Can't wait for my party tonight!!!
Stay tuned for posts next week!

Have a great weekend!

Blogosphere, meet Coco

I'm a furmom!

Crazy. And cool. I just can't believe I have a furry little thing to share my apartment with. It's extra weird becuase this is my first pet. The family hamster & chinchilla aside, of course. Those little rodents will always have a special place in my heart.

I've been talking about getting a cat ever since I moved two years ago but it never seemed like the right time. Which is weird because in the very beginning I was single & it was winter so I probably could have used the company the most. I'm backwards.

But finally the perfect opportunity presented itself and it was time to put my endless indecisiveness to bed. With a lot of coercion from my family & dC.

I actually picked her up on Friday night & we spent the next couple of days at my parents'. On Sunday we brought Coco home home. And then we realized  how much cat-proofing we had to do in the apartment.

She already has quite the personality & I'm pretty pumped to watch the shenanigans that will surely ensue in this chapter of our lives.

Now that she's been here for 24hrs she's a lot more comfortable & I spent the better part of last night watching her entertain herself with the most random things. She is downright hilarious. Seriously.

Pouncing 'on' invisible things on the ground.
Jumping on and off the couch.
Chasing the windup mouse.
Slipping & sliding on the hardwood floors.

Really, quite the riot. Especially for a Monday night. What can I say, I'm just a cat lady now - easily entertained.  :)

Candle Countdown - One Week!

My birthday is one week away and I'm nowhere near as excited as I usually am. That is bloody scary. This is coming from the girl who would have a week-long birthday marathon & countdown weeks ahead. I don't know, I guess I'm not excited to get old. Mainly because I feel like I've accomplished so much less than I had intended to by the age of 26. But I'm trying to be super excited with planning my night out and all that jazz. Fake it till you make it, right?! Please say yes.

Anyway, this post wasn't meant to be depressing. Onto the important stuff...

A few weeks ago I posted my Wishlist, though I'm sure most of you have left the gift shopping until the last minute. Which is good in this case, because I've got an update.

I recently checked out Bath & Bodyworks & some of their amazing Holiday stuff - love! But what's the point of getting that stuff for Christmas, it's over by then! And no, buying them for myself is not an option. Thank you almost-Christmas birthday!

Here's some of the stuff I've been lusting over:

Any of their Holiday Scents

The gorgeous 3-Wick Candles
They come in mini too!

Last but not least, this amazing Diamond Glass lipgloss
I could go on because I l.o.v.e. Bath & Bodyworks!!!

T-7 days...Eeek

Happy Weekend Y'all!

Another Birthday Shoutout!

Yesterday I had special birthday shout out to my fave Hollywood boy. It wouldn't be fair to let this day pass without a shout out to my favourite Hollywood man.

He oozes charisma. Sex appeal. Bad-boy niceness. A Scottish drawl. In summary, I want to do many things to this man.

Happy Birthday Gerry :)

It most certainly doesn't help that I picture Mr. Butler as the hot cop in the Stephanie Plum series I'm reading. (Book reviews for one & two in the series) Right from the start I got confused by that other bounty hunter movie he was in (with Jennifer Aniston) and since then, he's all I see. Anyway, I don't mind; he is single and all.

As if November wasn't already the best birthday month, I get to share it with Ryan & Gerard. #luckygirl

Humidifying Fun

This past weekend was full of to-do list fulfilling & dC family time. There's nothing better than being able to cross a bunch of things off of your to do list. Especially when you have to spend the weekend in the 'burbs.

So my apartment is very very dry and this year I finally decided that it was time for me to by a humidifier. The super nice (European) ones will put you off $250 so I haven't exactly been looking forward to this purchase, especially right before Christmas.  On a browsing trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond we came across a nice and fairly inexpensive one which I finally convinced myself to buy.

While at the cash I noticed that the grandma in front of me had a 20% discount coupon - apparently you receive that once you sign up for their mailing list. Win! Unfortunately, even if you sign up right away and receive it to your smartphone email, you still have to actually print it out and bring it to the store. Home is a 15 minute drive. Lose.

But teamdCdK is creative and all we needed was a printer to print off one sheet of paper. Easy. Since we had already been to the Best Buy, we headed over to the Future Shop (Best Buy's cousin) across the street. We originally debated just flat out asking to print something but it seemed too lame. Of course none of the demo computers were hooked up to printers, that would just be too easy. Luckily, Future Shop has kiosks where you can look up products and print off info/specs. How many of those do you think worked? Zero.

However, before figuring out that none of them worked we ran around the store to each and every one of them, all the while looking around to make sure no one was watching us log into Bed, Bath & Beyond. Haha If security was paying attention to their cameras, they probably would have grown suspicious. At the last kiosk in the appliance department, I was bending down peering into the printer cabinet hoping that maybe, just maybe, this one would work when an employee approached us.

Employee: Can I help you guys with something?
dK: Mmm, we're just looking.
dC: Yeah, we were just trying to print some specs.
Employee: Oh, for what?
dC: An appliance.
Employee: [slightly confused look] Umm...which one?
dC: This fridge. [points to fridge next to him]
Employee: [still slightly confused] Oh ok, I can get those for you.

She sauntered off to print them (of course I followed her just in case she was going to a working kiosk that we'd missed - nope) and came back with some helpful information. For the record, it's a pretty awesome fridge. What can I say, I'm a fan of appliances. #nerdalert

So I guess we weren't clever enough. But 20% is 20% so we drove home, printed out the coupon and went back to pick up the humidifier. Not before we 'borrowed' his dad's BMW for the second ride. Didn't make sense to have one car make the same trip twice, amiright?

I'm happy to report that the air in my apartment is infinitely better now so it was all worth it.

Today's life lesson: sign up for Bed, Bath & Beyond's mailing list before going to shop there so that you can PRE print your 20% off coupon.

Special Birthday!

I couldn't let this day pass without marking it with at least a shout out.

On this day 32 years ago, the world became a better place. Within two decades, we'd all be taken by storm and nothing would ever be the same again.

This person is of course none other than...

{via}

Who did you think I was talking about?

He has done great great things for cinema, both in Hollywood & in Canada. Not to mention what he's done to lusting young women like myself.

On behalf of all Gosling fans (I'm sure I can take the liberty of saying), we wish you a splendid birthday and many many many more years of blessing us with your existence.

Oh and Ryan - did Eva post a shout out to you on her blog? No? Yeah, didn't think so. I'll be waiting.

November 6, 2012

crafts, Crafts, CRAFTS!

Leave it to me to become obsessed with something I find online and going way overboard in loving it. When I like something, I REALLY REALLY like it.

Last month I discovered craft gawker, also known as the best thing since sliced bread.

I've always been passionate about homemade things, probably partly related to my frugal tendencies, and my mom has always been so good with stuff like that. When I found this website [which is essentially a Pinterest for craft projects and ideas from all over the web], I was beyond excited about the prospect of creating things that were pretty, useful and allowed me to save money!

So naturally, I went on a mini shopping spree [oh yes, the irony!] to buy all the necessities for the first few projects I wanted to tackle.

1. Chalkboard spray paint / 2. Acrylic Paint (silver) / 3. White school glue
4. Mod Podge / 5. Stick on covering paper / 6. Porcelain paint pens
7. Stamp letters / 8. Felt / 9. Chalk
10. Paint sponges / 11. Tissue paper / 12. Painter's tape

I've started a few of the projects on my list (which I'll post about separately) but it's definitely something I want to get into more & stick with. If anything, because it's a fun and useful hobby and this girl could use a non-computer-related hobby! The challenge has been finding the time to do all this but that's part of the reason I'm pumped about winter & colder weather - the best excuse for staying indoors!

I can't wait to share some of my crafty projects as I complete more of them!

Does anybody else browse craft gawker?
Are you big on crafts? Please share!

Halloween Fam Jam

We did Halloween a bit later this year as my extended family party was planned for this past Saturday.

I had originally given up on doing anything for Halloween because the costumes I had planned for were just too complicated, especially with no sewing machine [yet].

But when I got this invite I figured we'd put together something last minute-y and here we are...

The gang [minus parentals]
Always great times with my crazy fam!

But the best part of the weekend was definitely coming across this:

I laughed uncontrollably for so long. dC thought I was so weird. Whatever. It was the best!

Happy Monday...Hope y'all survive!

I'm linking up with Tara & Vicki for...
...to show off...

My Halloween Nails

Have a great weekend all!

Book Club - 11.02

Linking up with some fellow book worms today!

This week I'm reviewing:
{via}

The FBI doesn't believe it. The Governor wants the problem to disappear. But agent Judy Maddox knows the threat is real: an extreme group of eco-terrorists has the means and the know-how to set off a massive earthquake of epic proportions. For California, time is running out.
Now Maddox is scrambling to hunt down a petty criminal turned cult leader turned homicidal mastermind. Because Judy knows that the dying has already begun. And soon, the earth will violently shift, bolt, and shake down to its very core...

I really liked this book. It had a pretty slow start, not gonna lie, but it turned out to be a good read. Plus, it was a refreshing change from the last few books I've read which were mostly light (rom) coms.
The book was a great mix of suspense, crime and humanity. And a little bit of girl power too. What I didn't like was the whole theory of communes, which this book introduced me to. So so hippy and so not my style. But that's neither here nor there so take my reco and read it :)

Happy Weekend!
