Two Years as a City Girl

As I sit here, I actually cannot believe that two whole years have passed since the day that I moved to Toronto. Two full sets of seasons. Wow.

That means two years since the awful packing & the crazy moving weekend, that coincided with Halloween partying.

Unsurprisingly for me, I'm still putting the finishing touches on the apartment. Since I moved out of my room in my parents house and had to buy all my furniture, I focused on the important things first and the decor second. I've slowly built up some more furnishings - an extra dresser (because apparently I've been able to afford lots of shopping), a bookcase and a new TV.

I'm still working on the wall art though - I just put up another picture today actually. I have lots of picture frames to fill though. The hardest part is figuring out what pictures to fill them with. #firstworldproblems

I definitely still L.O.V.E. my apartment and feel extremely lucky to have found it, minus the rent increase that's happening this week *whomp whomp* It still speaks to me and small kitchen aside, is perfect for my needs. It is definitely where I feel most comfortable. Even after a weekend of visiting my family in the house I grew up in, I cannot wait to get back to my apartment. My things are here, my life is here.

But I've definitely thought about moving. A little bit bitter sweet, but life is changing and things need to change with it. So as much as I love this place and this neighbourhood, if things go as I'd like them to, there may not be a third anniversary. However I'm not going to get too ahead of myself here...

So today I will take in everything with the same excitement and unjadedness that I did two years ago when I spread my wings in this city and everything else -like the fact that it's Monday - can take a back seat.

Eff, Marry, Kill - 10.23

Double post - it's your lucky day!
You can check the other one out here.

Heather & Michelle's link up is back!

In that exact order, here are my picks...

Oh Gerard, it was so difficult to decide what to do with you...do I want to marry you & have you to myself forever, or just be victim to the bliss that you could inflict? I had to choose the bliss - take me to Sparta!

JGL, my new celeb crush. Talented and funny with a new-found hunk factor. I think this fellow would make an excellent hubby!

I know so many of you love John Mayer and that makes me screw up my face in utter disbelief and throw up at the same time. Who does this douchebag think he is? Swooping in on fragile Hollywood ladies (Jen Aniston,  little Taylor Swift & most-recently Katy Perry...the list goes on), prey on them with his smooth words and then break their hearts? He's no better than Joe Shmoe down the street - do not fuel his ego with your fandom!

Can't wait to see everyone else's picks!!!

Don't forget to check out my birthday post from today as well :)

Candle Countdown

My big annual day is coming up - that's right, my birthday is just one month away!

I know most of you want to get started on my gifts so here's my list. I actually had a hard time coming up with a list this year because I really truly do not 'need' anything. It's a good thing that this doubles as a Christmas list (because let's face it, that's just over two months away!) so I only have to go through this process once. LOL

- Xena: Complete DVD Collection
- Sewing machine
- Fun Stationary things (pens, stamps, etc)
- Jewellery dish
- Pandora charm(s)
- Super nice candles
- Super nice bath bubbles & salts
- Cute dangly earrings
- Starbucks gift card
- Michael's gift card
- H&M gift card

I'm normally not big on gift cards but I've gotten picky and I understand I can be hard to shop for sometimes. I'm not that picky with presents either way, I just like getting surprises :)

Happy Shopping!

Weekend Pleasures

Amongst other things, I was sick last week and still getting over it. I'm not sure what's worse, actually being sick or the getting over it part because for me that usually includes a coldsore or two. What I would qualify as the worst thing of life. I have been far more tempted to call in sick to work due to coldsores than when I'm actually feeling sick. Being in public during those days is my least favourite.

That being said, I didn't want to ruin my weekend entirely so I sucked it up. Here are some things I enjoyed this weekend:

- Lots of drinks and catching up with good friends at the bar on Friday night!
- Staying in all day Saturday (thank you dC! <3) to just cure my hangover get some R&R with a movie [we watched Wanderlust]
- Dinner-and-a-movie date on Saturday night
- Wearing tons of layers - tights, thigh high socks, long T, sweater & jacket - i LOVE layers!
- Bruno Mars on SNL [I can't find any good YouTube clips right now]
- Sleeping in on Sunday then playing cellphone games in bed :)
- Going for a walk to enjoy the GORGEOUS weather & having brunch at a small bagel place
- Discovering the.sweetest.ever Stationary shop. O.M.G. i love Stationary
- Getting fro-yo & mini cookies with hand-picked toppings :)
- Finally breaking out our new cast iron pan to make pork chops & steak with grilled vegetables for dinner - the best pan to have in an apartment/condo!
- Re-watching Casper after over 10 years - doesn't get old
- Halloween Haunt - rides + haunted houses = awesome time!
- Sleepytime tea before bed...even though we didn't need it :)

Happy Monday, hope your week is off to a good start!

Nail Files - 10.19

I totally promise I'm working on some real posts for you but these last two weeks have been not-so-good for me. I did find some down time last night though to paint my nails & just wanted to show them off so...

I'm linking up with Tara & Vicki for...

The blue is a bit more navy in real life but pretty close. I wanted to do a design on the grey but got too tired lol

Have a great weekend!

And see you soon, promise :)

Book Club - 10.12

This week I'm reviewing:
{via goodreads]

Kate Appleton needs a job. Her husband has left her, she’s been fired from her position as a magazine editor, and the only place she wants to go is to her parents’ summer house, The Nutshell, in Keene’s Harbor, Michigan. Kate’s plan is to turn The Nutshell into a Bed and Breakfast. Problem is, she needs cash, and the only job she can land is less than savory.
Matt Culhane wants Kate to spy on his brewery employees. Someone has been sabotaging his company, and Kate is just new enough in town that she can insert herself into Culhane’s business and snoop around for him. If Kate finds the culprit, Matt will pay her a $20,000 bonus. Needless to say, Kate is highly motivated. But several problems present themselves. Kate despises beer. No one seems to trust her. And she is falling hard for her boss.
Can these two smoke out a saboteur, save Kate’s family home, and keep a killer from closing in…all while resisting their undeniable attraction to one another? Filled with humor, heart, and loveable characters, Love in a Nutshell is delicious fun.

I loved this book. Not surprising because I've enjoyed everything by Evanovich and this was a great, quick read in between library holds. The story sucked me in right from the beginning; there wasn't that prolonged intro of characters and plot, just right into the storyline. It had the perfect amount of Nancy Drew and romance, and I couldn't wait to see how long it would take for sparks to fly, if at all! I definitely recommend this book and I am sure that it will not disappoint.

Thanksgiving long weekend

Last weekend was a long one in Canada thanks to Canadian Thanksgiving [no pun intended] heehee

I'd like to say it was relaxing but mostly it was busy, busy though definitely fulfilling :)

I spent Friday night making the pie shells for my pumpkin & apple pies - 2 of each for 2 Thanksgiving dinners. Then I made myself a poutine as a reward. Fries, cheese, bacon & gravy - I can't possibly think of anything more delicious than that.

Saturday morning I spent making my pie fillings for easy pie-baking on Sunday and Monday. Talk about efficient over here!

Lunch on Saturday was served by Five Guys - I think we all know how amazing that is...
That was followed up with shopping where picked up these puppies for a total of $70! If you live in Canada, and especially Toronto, you know that's a steal!

That night we saw Looper - so amazing, I definitely recommend you all see it! Seriously, it's probably the best movie I have seen all year and here is a preview to convince you.

Sunday was the first Thanksgiving dinner resulting in this pie aftermath:
{via @arseniaa]
Monday I baked my last two pies which looked like this pre-baking:

And then the apple pie dish cracked so you won't be getting the sorry-ass post-baking picture because it does it no justice lol Still delicious though and enjoyed by everyone at the second Thanksgiving!

But I definitely needed another day to recuperate from all the baking, running around and eating...Oh well, maybe next weekend!

Whether Canadian or American, what is your favourite part of Thanksgiving?

Nail Files - 10.05

It's time to show off some pretty digits with...

This week's mani:
I went with something very simple the other night for during the week. That, and I just got this colour on a whim. It's a pretty tame colour and I think it would look nice as an accent finger with another colour. Either way, more NYC nail polish to like :)

Also, I organized all of my nail polish this week by brand and shade. Plus made a reference sheet for all the colours so I can more easily choose what I want. Oh so OCD.

Have a great weekend!
