Nail Files - 9.28

It's time to show off some pretty digits with...

This week's mani:
Chinatown is a very deep purple, though it looks black. The ring finger has one coat of each.
I'm still trying to figure out if I like a lighter or darker colour as the stand out finger.

Go link up!

It's Ok Thursday

This is my first time linking up with Amber but it's been on my list for a while. You should too!

It's OK...

that I'm eating a cinnamon raisin bagel & blogging instead of getting ready for work

• that I ate a red velvet cupcake at 11pm last night

• that I didn't totally hate the movie Battleship [but am curious as to who saw that in theatres!]

• that I haven't checked my apple/pumpkin pie & stuffing recipes yet for next weekend's Thanksgiving [Canada, eh!]

• that I've planned my entire evening & activities around the Grey's Anatomy [!!!] premier tonight!

• that I spent an hour at work re-organizing all of my Pinterest boards

• to suddenly become obsessed with crafts and run out to buy all kinds of supplies - I swear I'll use them!

• that I'm procrastinating on making a few doctors' & dentist appointments

• that I like to save my Starbucks 'experiences' for days that I want a treat, and not every day

• that I have a month worth of receipts to enter into my expense tracker

• that I'm avoiding starting the Follet book I have because I just want to continue the Plum series!

• that I still don't feel like getting ready for work...

#Emmy Tweetcap

So the Emmy Awards were the other night, and while I hadn't originally planned on watching I didn't have much else to do. Plus, I thought it would be a great opportunity to add to my list of tweeted award ceremonies. You can also check out the Grammys and Golden Globes tweet-caps that I've done in the past.

So because of the twitter feed, you'll have to read this bottom up...and then scroll down for the images. Sorry, I hope it's not too big of an inconvenience for y'all! I did notice some minor misspells, please don't call the grammar police...

What did you think of the 2012 Emmy Awards? Any particular hits or misses? Share, share, share!!!

Walk off the Earth...Amazing!

I am beyond happy that we managed to get tickets to this show last week because it was down right fan-fucking-tastic!!
Check out the getting-pumped-up post here.

From the venue (very fitting) & opening acts, to the performances and music - just crazy good.

Here are pics from the show. When I figure out how to upload to YouTube I will show you a live performance of this awesomeness.

Opening the show

Marshall :)

Gianni :)

They let giants balloons go!

The famous 5-people-1-guitar performance of  'Somebody that I used to know' (video to come!)

I know this looks like dust, but there was also CONFETTI!!!! I may or may not have saved some...

Since I only shared covers with you last time, here's an original - love this song!

Buh-bye Summer!

I know summer ended two days ago, but on this blog I've got one more summer post to share so it's going to be ending today. I just extended your summer - you're welcome.

Excuse the cliche but - where did the summer go? I know we say that every year but I must say that this year seems to have passed exceptionally quickly. Probably because there was so much going on with very little down time to just BE. Or I just don't remember that down time. Either way, summer 2012 went by in a flash!

In Toronto, you know summer is coming to an end when Th Ex hits town. And you know it's hit town when you can hear what sounds like World War III bomb planes outside. The air show is annoying.

Ribfest, $30 for a stuffed animal (thank you arcade!) & a Friday night to take in the last of summer gloriousness. Amazing.

We officially ended summer in style at this couple's very lovely wedding...

...with us looking as stunning as always...just saying ;)

As always though, I am looking forward to autumn - my favourite season by far! - for the winding down, bundling up and time to cozy up at home guilt-free! :)

Most importantly - only 2 months until my birthday! Don't worry, I'll share the wishlist soon to give you plenty of time to shop and mail your gifts!

Book Club!

This week I'm reviewing:

Sometimes the greatest things are the most embarrassing." Ellen Degeneres' winning, upbeat candor has made her show one of the most popular, resilient and honored daytime shows on the air. (To date, it has won no fewer than 31 Emmys.) Seriously... I'm Kidding, Degeneres' first book in eight years, brings us up to date about the life of a kindhearted woman who bowed out of American Idol because she didn't want to be mean. Lively; hilarious; often sweetly poignant.

Honestly...don't. Just don't. I love Ellen DeGeneres as much as the next person (trust me) but this did not do it for me. I started this book July 1 and finished it last weekend. Mostly because my Stephanie Plum series is unavailable and I haven't decided what I'm reading in between. It's not that it's so much different from what Ellen is like on her show; but that's the problem. It's a book of all of those one-liners and witty comments. That works in person, not in a book. So I will continue to like Ellen but I definitely will not be reading anymore of her books.

Walk off the Earth...Tonight!!!

No, please don't go and actually do that. It's a band. A band that I'm going to see tonight. A band that I've been waiting to see since February!

They are a Canadian band (from Burlington, near Toronto) so some many of you may not know them but you really need to give them a listen. The covers are my favourite and what really got me into this band; I love covers in general so that was easy. I've been listening to their original stuff in prep of the concert & they are just as good!

Below are my favourite covers to get you started, but check out their YouTube page!

Their amazing 5-people-1-guitar cover of Gotye's overplayed 'Somebody That I Used to Know' really got their name out there

Tied for first place in my favourites is their genius cover of Rihanna's 'Man Down' - way better than her own version

And the second #1 favourite has to be LMFAO's 'Party Rock Anthem' - totally changed the song for me!

They've even covered Adele's 'Someone Like You'

And most recently they did Maroon 5's 'Payphone' - a song that so so annoying in its original form

All of these are a MUST WATCH and I promise promise promise it will be worth it! If not, I will reimburse your time. Yes I will.

Chicago, The Fireworks

Check back for Day 1Day 2the Zoo, Day 3, the Boat Tour & Day 4.

I know it may sound like fireworks are not 'big' enough to deserve their own post in a trip about Chicago, but trust me...they were BIG!

On our last night in Chicago, we went down to Navy Pier to watch their mid-week fireworks. These were not your regular mid-week fireworks. They were serious holiday-esque fireworks, last well over 10 minutes. That's years in fireworks time, and I loved all of it!

For your viewing pleasure...[slideshow below as well]

So our trip to Chicago ended with a 'BANG!' [sorry, couldn't resist] and the consensus is that we totally loved every single minute of it! I love love love this city & I will definitely be back!

I'm going to put together a mini 'tour guide' post with recommendations if you're thinking of visiting, so come back to check it out!

Now, what was your favourite Chicago post?
