Shopping, Sushi, Duckface

My mom and sister finally came to visit me this past weekend and we had a jolly ol' good time! Honestly, this visit has been 'in the works' practically since I moved a year ago but schedules just never jived. My sister's busy social life is difficult to work around.

Obviously we started off by hitting the mall, where I picked up two incredible finds at none other than my favourite, H&M!
$29.95CAD at H&M
I've been dying for blue skinny jeans since Tara ranted about them here & I kept seeing them in all the stores. I already own purple ones, so I wanted more colours! The navy skinny pants I came by accidentally but totally love them for work with a beige or brown top & my giraffe heels. All I'm going to say is be on the lookout for some uncharacteristic for me outfit posts!

Shopping was followed up with sushi *om nom nom*
Mom finally getting the hang of chopsticks (instead of poking the maki)! But it was short-lived...

And that deliciousness was followed up by a makeup session!
Yes, my sister owns all that makeup and more!
She also feels the need to own various brands of exactly the same pink lipstick!
Naturally, I modeled most of them. With my duck face.
I also made out with 3 bare minerals eyeshadows [thanks Nik!]
Really pumped to try them all, especially the neutral shades!
But my favourite part was discovering the lipstick [non]colour I've always dreamed of! Naturally, it comes from M.A.C. so I'm going to have to dish out like $20 but it'll be well worth it!

They left today and I did some shopping for an important upcoming event that I shall not mention yet... Overall a truly lovely weekend! Now if only I could skip the week...*le sigh*

You will thank me after you watch...I didn't even watch Sesame Street & still loved the shit out of this!

Book Club Friday!

Hello bookies!

I finally finished the Hunger Games Trilogy so this week I'm reviewing:
Young Katniss Everdeen has survived the dreaded Hunger Games not once, but twice, but even now she can find no relief. In fact, the dangers seem to be escalating: President Snow has declared an all-out war on Katniss, her family, her friends, and all the oppressed people of District 12. The thrill-packed final installment of Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games trilogy will keep young hearts pounding.

In case you don't know, here's what I thought about Book 1 & Book 2...Definitely my least favourite of the 3 books because it started off very slowly. It definitely picked up and started resembling the other 2 books which got me excited (!) but the ending left me wanting more. A lot more. Regardless of what I thought though, can't complete a trilogy without reading the 3rd book, so read on!

*If anyone wants to discuss this book's ending please comment!*
But please also comment otherwise :)

So here's the deal...

I'm unhappy. Unhappy enough with one part of my life that it is seriously spilling over into the rest of it and warping my outlook on everything. It's funny that only 50 hours per week can taint the entire 168. I think you know what I'm talking about.

I knew that things would be crazy after the holidays because I would have twice as many responsibilities, but I didn't know just how crazy. And I didn't know just how unthankful the extra effort would be. I know it sounds like I'm whining and everyone goes through this once in a while, blah blah blah. It's not just me - I see it all around me. But since I don't want to go into too many details, we'll have to leave it at "you have to be there". However, consider yourself lucky not to be there.

So after a miserable 10-hour day, the last thing I want to do is sit in front of another computer screen, even though it's for the sake of this lovely lil blog of mine. Nor do I want to spew negative shit because I'm in such a wretched mood.

If you follow my twitter (as you should!) you'll know that I'm not down 100% of the time. dC does a great job of keeping my happiness in check (thanks boo!) and I do my best to make my weekends compensate for the week. But that leaves little time to update like I used to.

I could spend 2 hours writing a couple posts & leaving a few of comments (which I really enjoy doing, btw!) or I could be watching a movie. Tough call, I know.

I'm not saying I'm going to stop blogging. No. In fact, I'm going to do my best to post regularly. But I can't give up experiencing the joys in order to have time to write them down. Last week, Rach (one of my faves, you gotta check her out!) did a really good job of breaking the ice for me with this post. I guess I just felt guilty about saying what Rach actually had the guts to say. I love this place & I'm going to stick around - but I'm going to do it my way. [Thanks Rach :))]

I guess this is probably a bad time to talk about how I've kind of considered starting a (second) more serious, global issues blog. "Look, you can barely keep up with one where you don't even have to censor yourself edit, let alone a controversial one that will make you famous."  All in good time my pretties!

So...I guess that's my rant. There are some things I have to fix in my life, but I'm workin' on it so please be patient! Better yet, come along for the ride!

Goodbye 2011, Hello 2012...
I guess 2012 is official now!

Happy Weekend!

I could, but I won't!

That's right - I could make [pointless] resolutions, but I won't. I'm never really going to follow them. Unless someone puts me on a leash and keeps me in line. Case in point - last year I wrote this post and actually forgot that it even existed.

But I actually worked on all of those things, and clearly not because they were on the [forgotten] list.

1. I definitely read more - I was inspired by my Book List & the Book Club Friday linkup.
2. I picked up more sports and loved it! Ok so the eliptical didn't come out of the closet but still...
3. I wasn't terribly unhealthy except gaining some weight at the end of the year. Portion & sweets control are a daily battle...
4. I may or may not have mostly failed at not sweating the small stuff. Short fuse + worrier = bad combo

See, I don't need to make new resolutions, I've still got some old ones to perfect! But seriously, these are really the most important things that I want to alter and then maintain in my life so they'll always be something I'm focused on.

In the meantime, I've got plenty of other things - plus 3 weeks of vaca! - to keep my 2012 busy!

- Continuing to experiment with new recipes
- Doing more to keep in touch with friends
- Starting to invest a little bit of money
- Being a better blogger (& maybe getting some more followers?)
- Maybe meeting a bloggy friend or two
- Do a couple of North American trips in the summer...including Vegas?!

What are you looking forward to in 2012?
